On the final day of the 2021 Ketcham Holiday Tournament, Beacon defeated John Jay-East Fishkill, 82-53.
“I think our guys just showed up ready to play,” Beacon head coach Scott Timpano. “When we share the ball and everybody gets involved and people are touching the ball early, it makes everybody feel good. That’s what we look to do early in games.”
Beacon came out with an early lead, leading 15-8 after the first quarter. At halftime, the Bulldogs held a 37-24. It was the third quarter where Beacon blew it open, taking a 25-point advantage in the period.
Darien Gillins led all scorers with 22 points. He had 16 of his 22 in the first half. Wilson Ciccone had 13 and Jason Komisar finished with 12.
John Jay was led by Malaki Smith, who finished with 18 points. Jaice Martabano had 11.
“Playing at 11 o’clock on a Thursday isn’t always an easy thing to do, but our message was ‘You can leave this tournament as the champions or the best you can do is 2-1.’ We accomplished our goal,” Timpano said.
Beacon won the last two games of the tournament to conclude 2021 at 4-3.
John Jay finished the tournament 1-2, as they sit at 2-8 on the season.
