HYDE PARK, N.Y. - It may have been snowing in Hyde Park, but in the FDR High School gymnasium, it was raining threes for Our Lady of Lourdes senior Jake D’Auria.
D’Auria had a game-high 29 points, as his five three pointers led the Warriors over FDR, 85-33.
“Jake’s become a leader on the court,” Santoro said. “He’s shooting the ball great. Sometimes you get shooters that can shoot spot off at random, and they're great shooters, and they stink out of the system. And other kids are great in the system and they're not very good just spot up. He's kind of good at both."
It was all Lourdes from the jump, as they got out to a 21-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Warriors held FDR to 11 first half points, as Lourdes led 44-11 at the break.
“I’m always impressed when we execute our defense the way it’s supposed to. Tonight we did,” Lourdes head coach Jim Santoro said.
Through the first three games of the season, Lourdes has allowed 46 points per game on defense.
“We talked about executing in practice all week,” D’Auria said. “That’s what we did well today and that’s the key to us winning from now for the rest of the season.”
The Faughnan brothers combined for 24 points for Lourdes. Sophomore Patrick finished with 14 points and senior Chris had 10 points and nine rebounds.
“He brings a lot of athleticism,” said Santoro of Chris Faughnan. “He can defend well, he can defend at the perimeter if I need him to, he can defend down low, so I like the fact that he has a great basketball body and I can stick him in almost every position.”
For the Presidents, Jordan Blue led with nine points; Qadir Newton finished with seven.
FDR is now 1-3 on the season. They’ll look to bounce back tomorrow at 2 p.m. against Beacon.
Lourdes improves to 2-1 on the year and will take on Ketcham in the semifinal Wednesday at 4 p.m.
