After falling in the quarterfinal to Lourdes on Tuesday night, John Jay bounced back in a big way to take down Marlboro, 62-28.

“It’s a great team win for us,” John Jay junior Gavyn Pacheco said. “Coming into the tournament this year we didn’t do too well, so coming in this year showing everyone we can play and can compete it’s great for us as a team. We’re making strides for us to be dangerous.”
It was a dominant performance from John Jay beginning immediately. The Patriots held  a 21-point lead at the half and never looked back.

“I thought we played great,” John Jay head coach Rob Seipp said. “I thought we brought a lot of energy yesterday in the Lourdes game and I thought we brought that same energy today and played better… I couldn’t be happier with the way we played.”

Jaice Martabano led all scorers with 20 points. Pacheco added 15 for the Patriots.

“We’re improving. What’s big for me is that: the Spring Valley game that we won, we played pretty well. We lost to Lourdes, but played even better and then today we won and played even better,” Seipp said. “To me, the last three games we’ve played, we’ve gotten better.’

John Jay is now 3-3 on the season and will close out their three games in the 2022 Duane Davis Christmas Tournament on Thursday when they take on New Paltz at 2:30 p.m.

For Marlboro, they were led by Miles Brooks who scored 15.

Marlboro will play Thursday at 4:30 p.m. against FDR.
