It’s not often in basketball where following a loss you have a chance to redeem yourself less than 17 hours later. Ketcham made the most of their opportunity and followed up a difficult Wednesday semifinal loss with a 61-54 victory in the Third Place Game over Beacon.
“It was a good hard fought win,” Ketcham junior Owen Paino said. “We were down after a bad loss [last night], Lourdes is a great team, but we felt like we could’ve done better. We knew Beacon was going to be tough too, we just came out ready to play and forgot about last night.”
The Indians did just that, coming out strong in the first half building an 11-point lead at the half.
At the end of the third quarter, Beacon was able to go on an 8-0 run to cut their deficit to two.
Although it was close throughout the entire fourth, Ketcham never allowed the Bulldogs to get closer than two to secure the victory.
“We just wanted to get in that winning mentality,” Paino said. “So we just came out, played hard — they played hard too — but we came out with the W.”
Paino led all scorers with 20 points. Leo Gecaj chipped in with 10.
Ketcham is now 4-3 on the season.
For Beacon, they were led by Joseph Battle who had 19. Darien Gillins finished with 10.
